What is a Heuristic Search?

Checking this box includes a pattern-matching process to scan for files that are similar to known viruses. This is how new and previously unknown viruses are detected. Because of this, StopSign often detects files that "May Be Infected," which is not a standard feature of other antivirus engines. Using this feature may increase the chance that a harmless file may be viewed as infected. When StopSign detects such a file, instead of deleting the file it will quarantine it so you can decide if this is a false positive or not. Contact Technical Support at Support@stopsign.com for help in deciding how to treat a possible false positive or quarantined file.
