Virus Scans, Spyware Removers, and Popup Stoppers

The internet can be a large and scary place for a new or inexperienced computer user, and while an internet connection means having a wealth of knowledge and opportunities right at your fingertips, the nature of that connection carries some risks. Even internet newbies have heard of viruses, spyware, and popup ads - and if they hadn't before they logged on, they learn about them soon enough. If you have an internet connection, sooner or later you will run into computer security issues with viruses, spyware, and popups caused by adware. Using a virus scanner, spywarer remover, and popup stopper will lower your chance of having your secure information compromised, and will decrease the chances of contracting viruses, spyware, or adware in the first place.

Spyware installs itself on a user's computer and tracks the user's online activity, sending the information to third parties. Spyware can be used to track browsing habits and keystrokes, and can use the information to target the user for advertising, financial theft, and even identity theft. Spyware removers can be employed to remove any spyware found by a spyware and virus scan, but sometimes the user's privacy has already been compromised. A spyware remover alone is not enough - a user must take steps to protect his system before any viruses, spyware, or adware is downloaded.

Viruses are called so because they spread in a manner similar to a biological virus - they replicate themselves and spread to other computers and files via security flaws. Once a virus gets on your computer, it can be very hard to remove, and some viruses may have a devastating effect on your hard drive and files. An antivirus/anti spyware program that performs regular virus scans is an imperative for any computer security program, as is an effective popup stopper. A virus scan program prompts the virus scanner to scan the computer for viruses, spyware, or other suspect files, and targets these files for removal. Spyware removers clean found bits of spyware from the system, while popup stoppers prevent annoying popup ads from appearing during web browsing.

Popup stoppers do more than just prevent an irritant, however. Many of the popup ads blocked by popup stoppers contain spyware that is downloaded when the popup ad is clicked. Additionally, some popups, even if they themselves do not contain spyware, when clicked direct the user to a website that does contain spyware. Popups are caused by adware, which is designed to display advertisements on your screen. Popups are one of the more common methods of adware communication, and sometimes even a popup stopper will not prevent them from showing up. If spyware or adware is already present on your computer, you may have to use a spyware remover or adware remover to get rid of the popups instead of a popup stopper.

A good computer protection program should contain at least a virus scanner, spyware remover, and a popup stopper as a basis for internet safety. Other security tools, such as a firewall, can be added for even more protection.
