A massive spam outbreak based on the Storm trojan infection has infiltrated the Internet. Currently, this Trojan accounts for between 80-90% of all of the malware being spread through emails, according to researchers at Postini, Inc.
Here are some other names this infection is being identified as: Trojan.Peed, W32/Trojan.Pee, Trojan.Peacom, Trojan.Packed 13, Trojan.Warezov and Trojan.Zhelatin.ct.
These are the subject headings you are most likely to see in your inbox, when you are being spammed by the Storm Trojan: worm Alert!, Worm Detected, spyware Detected!, virus Activity Detected!
These messages carry with them a password protected ZIP file (the password is included in the body of the email). This spyware technology allows these emails to pass through email and spam filters making you very vulnerable to opening them.
Here is a sample copy of what the email will look like containing this infection:
"Dear Customer,
Our robot has detected an abnormal activity from your IP address on sending e-mails.
Probably it is connected with the last epidemic of a worm which does not have official patches at the moment.
We recommend you install this patch to remove worm files and stop email sending, otherwise your account will be blocked.
We had archived the patch because the worm can modify unpacked.exe files.
You should open the archive file, enter the password and run the patch immediately.

Stop-Sign's Malware Research Center and Anti-virus Department are currently on the brink of creating a method of destroying even the dropper leaving the infection behind.
Please be on the lookout for any emails you receive containing the subject lines and body text outlined above and DO NOT open them, click on their attachments or launch the zip files contained in them. You could unwittingly spread this spam to dozens of other users without even knowing it.
Stop-Sign anti-virus technicians had a cure for the original Storm Trojan infection the day it first came out. Our threat scanner will also detect and cure this new variant of Trojan.Peed immediately.
