New Trojan Virus is Spreading like Wild Fire
There is a new computer worm hitting the Net, particularly in Europe. The worm is being called ‘Storm Worm’. What is particularly noticeable is the timing and topicality of this infection and the quickness of its spread. It uses, as a subject line, ‘230 dead as storm batters Europe,’ riding the recent spate of storms hitting the headlines.

‘Storm Worm’ a trojan Horse virus was first noticed in Europe on January 18th, 2006, It is spread via email sent from a friend’s computers. Basically, the emails are sent with subject lines that are baiting people to open the email and ultimately the attached executable files. Ironically, the email was noticed yesterday during an actual storm that was peaking in Central Europe.

The threat this virus poses to the U.S. is thought to be minimal, however, due to the fact that many security companies will have updated their virus definitions. Other subject lines for this email include "U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza..." and "A killer at 11, he's free at 21 and..."

Most people will not notice that they are infected, but the malware that is installed on the computer opens a back door to that computer which can later be used to steal data, or send spam.

To protect yourself from the possibility of infection, watch out for emails with these subject lines avoid opening attachments that you are not absolutely sure of, and make sure that you have updated antivirus software runnning on your computer.
