trojan.MulDrop.2490 is one of the many variants of the MulDrop infection. This infection is fairly common. When executed, it will connect to a remote host and download malicious content and drop it onto the infected computer.
What It Does:
- Copies itself to your Windows system directory.
- Adds itself to your computer's registry so that the infection runs when Windows starts.
- Downloads malicious files and runs them on your computer.
How It Infects:
MulDrop can be distributed by any means, including but not limited to:
- Email attachments
- Instant message attachments
- Infected websites
- Hyperlinks to infected websites from email or instant messages
- Downloading by other malware
- Through peer-to-peer networks
How To Avoid Infection:
Do
not click any unexpected links in instant messages. Do not download
email attachments from unexpected sources. Do not download unknown
files or files from unknown sources. Scan all downloaded files with
StopSign and ensure that all updates are installed from Microsoft Update.
